Staff Satisfaction Survey Feedback - Our Communication Strategy
The Whiddon Group Largs residential aged care facility is situated two hours north of Sydney in the Hunter region in the small historic village of Largs. The premises overlooks lush farmland, with an abundance of birdlife and native animals often visiting the facility. A Better Practice Award was won by the Largs facility in 2011 for their work and initiatives with regards to Infection Control Practices. The QPS Benchmarking Employee Satisfaction Survey is conducted annually as part of The Whiddon Group - Largs Quality Management program. This is done with the aim of identifying our strengths and areas for improvement as well as providing staff with the opportunity to have input into the planning process and offering their suggestions to drive improvement.
Every staff member is given an Employee Satisfaction Survey to complete during February and return within a 3 week period. The surveys are anonymous unless the employee selects to write their name on the form.
Overall the results received were consistent with previous surveys. We feel this demonstrates that good systems are in place, and staff are well trained and equipped to do the jobs for which they are employed to do. The survey results, coupled with low absenteeism rates, demonstrates staff have a high level of overall satisfaction working for the facility.
The graphs below are from the 2011-12 and the 2012-13 years respectively and clearly display the improvements and low levels of absenteeism compared to the industry benchmarks achieved at Largs.
The trend graph below depicts the improvement in absenteeism over time at Largs.
Communicating Results of Employee Surveys
As an important part of the quality process we communicate the results of the employee surveys back to staff. As staff meetings are held regularly, we use this forum to share and discuss feedback and engage staff in assisting to develop an improvement plan based on the results and findings. All staff are invited to become involved in this very important discussion and team improvement activity.
The results of the Employee Surveys have been collated into booklet form and are made available for all staff to access and read, as well as being displayed in the carers room on the quality noticeboard, central for all staff. The staff appreciate being provided with this feedback which also encourages staff to continue completing the annual survey as they can see their feedback is used to make changes for improvement.
